Event set for Feb. 8 at CCTC, hunt competition to follow
The South Hills Longbeards chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) will host its third annual Coyote Hunting and Trapping Seminar from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 at Collins Career Technical Center, 11627 State Route 243, Chesapeake.
The event will differ from last year, and will feature expert coyote hunters and trappers speaking on stage. Afterward, the speakers will be available for a Q and A session. The seminar will be an open forum, and vendors will also be available selling and displaying hunting-related items.
Admission to the seminar is free, but there will be food and drinks available for purchase, as well as several gun and door prize raffles with all proceeds going to the chapter to help fund its other events throughout the year. The seminar will be open to the general public, including farmers, hunters or anyone interested in learning more about coyotes.
Immediately following the seminar, Todd’s Sporting Goods, of Proctorville, will host the second annual Tri-State Coyote Hunt Competition, which is 100 percent payout to the top three two-person teams. The registration fee per two-person team is $50, and hunting is only permitted in Ohio, Kentucky or West Virginia.
To register for the coyote hunt competition, stop into Todd’s Sporting Goods, located at 116 State St., Proctorville, from now until the day of the seminar on Feb. 8, or sign up during the seminar at CCTC.
Teams may hunt day or night, and must follow all wildlife regulations in the state they are hunting in. All teams will need to check in their harvested coyotes to Todd’s Sporting Goods by 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 for the official scorer to determine winning teams.
Payouts are for the top three teams only, and plaques will also be awarded for first, second and third place, as well as the biggest coyote.
