COAL GROVE — Some things are really very simple.
“At Friday’s practice, we talked about the Fairland loss and what we need to do to get back on track,” said Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach.
The answer was simple.
“Focus,” he said.
That focus created a bright picture for the Lady Hornets who breezed by the Gallipolis Blue Angels 58-28 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Addie Dillow had 15 points to lead a balanced offense for Coal Grove (2-2, 2-1). Destiny Dolen had 11 points, Lauren Crum nine and Baylee McKnight added eight.
Coal Grove jumped out to a 19-4 first quarter lead as Crum hit a 3-pointer and scored five points while Dillow and Dolen had four each.
“We came out at the start of the game focused and played excellent defense. My girls did a good job sharing the ball early and it helped contribute to 19 first quarter points,” said Roach.
Dillow scored eight points in the second quarter as Coal Grove opened up a comfortable 37-8 lead at the half.
Abby Cremeans hit a 3-pointer and scored five points and Mandy Petro had four points as Gallipolis outscored Coal Grove 14-9 in the third quarter and it was 46-22.
Crum had four points and McKnight knocked down a trey for the Lady Hornets in the quarter.
McKnight hit another trifecta in the fourth quarter and Dolen had five points as Coal Grove outscored Gallipolis 12-6.
“Crum and Dolen were strong on the board the entire game. Dillow is doing a good of learning to see the floor and understanding when to drive and when to pass it to the open person,” said Roach.
“McKnight struggled with her shooting early, but she was able to know down a couple of 3s in the second half.”
On Thursday, Coal Grove hosts Rock Hill and Gallipolis entertains South Point.
