CANNONSBURG, Ky. — The South Point Pointers; jumped out early but they didn’t keep jumping.
The Pointers took an early lead but the Boyd County Lions rallied to scored 23 unanswered points and posted a 23-13 win on Friday.
South Point (0-2) went up 7-0 on a 6-yard scoring pass from Brody Blackwell to Joel Morrison. Justin Collins kick the conversion at the 9:14 mark of the first quarter.
But Thomas Salyer ran 12 yards for the touchdown two minutes later and added the conversion for an 8-7 lead.
Carter Stephens had a 4-yard scoring run and Clayton Crum the conversion kick and it was 15-7 with 1:30 left in the first quarter.
The Lions (2-0) got their final touchdown on a 2-yard run by Salyer with 4:31 left in the half. Jacob Kelly added the conversion run.
South Point came back in the fourth quarter with 7:44 left on a 31-yard pass from Blackwell to Marcus Malone.
Blackwell was 7-of-17 for 86 yards and an interception. The Pointers had 99 yards rushing as JoJo Burris ran 20 times for 71 yards.
The Pointers had 185 total yards to the Lions 214.
