And that’s a wrap

The Lawrence County Fair wrapped up on Saturday, bringing an end to seven days of music, truck pulls, rodeos, rides and 4-H competitions.

This year’s fair was well-attended and, as unusual, featured a wide variety of events, all of which took hard work on the part of organizers.

We would like to commend the fair board for the months of organizing they put into each year’s event, from booking entertainment to preparing the site for the festivities.

Also deserving commendation is the 4-H extension office through The Ohio State University.

The fair features about 700 students in 4-H and FFA who take and present their animals in the many shows, put together projects for judging, and the fair serves as a great showcase for the region’s agriculture industry as a result. It takes many months of effort to raise the animals and crops brought to the fair and we salute all the members who took part. A full list of winners at this year’s fair is included in today’s Tribune.

There are many who deserve thanks, from those who ensure the rides are inspected and maintained for the safety of attendees, to the police and emergency services personnel who work the fair each year.

We would particularly like to cite those who took part in the bidding in Saturday’s two livestock and crop auctions.

Established by the late Don Lambert, these auctions bring income to the children and teens who take part in the fair, with all proceeds going directly to the members. As many involved at the fair point out, the money received often helps pay for new school clothes and other items the children will need as summer comes to an end. We are glad to see that the members’ work is being rewarded.

This year’s fair was a great event and was well put together, and we look forward to next year’s event. Thanks to all involved.
