Driven by a mission to celebrate greatness, preserve history and provide inspiration, the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum is the place where the story of Reds baseball comes alive from the present day dating back to the first professional baseball team of 1869.
The Reds Hall of Fame and Museum’s 1869 Red Stockings endeavors to bring history to life by re-enacting and playing baseball under the same rules as the undefeated 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings – America’s first all-professional baseball team.
The team will introduce the game under the same rules as the club did in 1869 and will wear the same style of uniforms.
And, yes, that means no gloves.Gloves weren’t used until the mid-1870s.
The Red Stockings will demonstrate and play an exhibition game, bringing to life the game as it was in 1869, when sportsmanship, camaraderie and fair play were the standard of the day.
