Cosie Cook
Jan. 14, 1956 — June 12, 2018
Cosie Loretta Cook, 62 of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at the James Cancer Center in Columbus. The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 14, 1956, a daughter of the late Glen and Nadi Bowman Kelley. She is survived by her husband, Steve Cook, whom she married Aug. 1, 1975.
Cosie was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and attended the Ashland Business College. She was saved at the age of 17 and was a member of Zoar Baptist Church. Cosie devoted her life to Christ, her husband, Steve, and her family. Her favorite title was being called “Mum,” which her greatest loves, her grandbabies, affectionately called her. She was the best friend to everyone who knew her and a loyal member of the Honorbrights. She was a transcriptionist/radiology information system analyst for Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital for more than 27 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Gene Cook.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Kelli Rose (Matt) Sloan and Kristen McKenzie (Cody) Cook, all of Ironton; three sisters, Glenna Cellar, Patricia (Steve) Burke, both of Ironton, and Vicki (John) Ellis, of Kitts Hill; a brother, Steve Kelley, her special bone marrow buddy; five grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin, Nathaniel and Mattilyn Sloan, and Kaysen Osborne, all of Ironton; mother-in-law, Peggy Cook, of Ironton; sister-in-law, Vickie Sherman, of Delray Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Zoar Baptist Church, Coal Grove, with Dr. Stephen G. Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Community Cemetery and visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Matt Sloan, Jacob Sloan, Ben Sloan, Nathaniel Sloan, Steve Burke, Andy Ellis, Cody Skyes, Corey Skyes, Brett Sherman and Cody Osborne. A special thanks to the James Cancer Center, especially Dr. Alice Mims, the many staff, nurses and transplant team members who went above and beyond in the care and devotion given to our precious Cosie.
