Ironton Elks to celebrate Flag Day

The Ironton Elks will celebrate Flag Day Thursday to honor the American flag.
Flag Day was first celebrated on June 14, 1777, and on May 30, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing National Flag Day on June 14 each year.
In 1907, the Grand Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks designated, by resolution, June 14 as Flag Day to give allegiance to the flag of our country.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ironton Elks Lodge #177, located at 416 Park Ave. in Ironton, and is free and open to the public.
