Panthers Hegemeyer earns trip to state meet

LANCASTER — Kelsie Hegemeyer is going to her first state track meet and she’s got a ringside seat.
The Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ sophomore distance runner finished fourth in the 1600-meter run at the Division III regional track meet held at Fairfield Union High School on Friday.
By placing fourth, Hegemeyer will advance to the state meet next Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens’ Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
Hegemeyer ran a 5:27.21 time to qualify. The top four finishers in the regional meet earn a berth in the state track meet.
The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ 4×100-meter relay team of Loralei Griffiths, Erica Collins, Lilly Zornes and Kyleigh Pauley was eighth with a 52.92 seconds clocking.
Finishing fifth in the girls’ 3200-meter run was Rock Hill Redwomen’s Camryn Miller with a 13:05.26 time.
In the boys’ meet, Coal Grove Hornets’ senior Joey Workman place in three events.
Workman was eighth in the high jump as he cleared 5-10, eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a 4276 time, and joined Kyle Sites, Justin Hicks and Nate Harmon to place eighth in the 4×100-meter relay at 45.65 seconds.
The Hornets’ Kimo Baldwin was 15th in the shot put with a heave of 39-7.
Green Bobcats’ James Hallam was 13th in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:21.57.
