Ruth Lively
Sept. 19, 1926 — May 20, 2018
Ruth Elinor Massie Lively, of Union, Missouri, passed away at 7:10 a.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at home with family by her side. Born Sept. 19, 1926, and reared in Ironton, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Eloise Stewart Massie.
She was a graduate of Ironton High School, Class of 1944, and Christ Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1947. While in nurses’ training, she was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp during World War II. Elinor reared a family of four children, before returning to the work force as a registered nurse. She retired after 20 years as an elementary school nurse in the Lindbergh School District, St. Louis County, Missouri.
Elinor was married Sept. 13, 1949, to the late Dennis Lee Lively, also of Ironton. They were blessed with 51 years of married life.
Dennis and Elinor are survived by four children, Denise Pantalion, of Houston, Texas, David Lively, of Paris, France, Margaret Schulz, of Union, Missouri, and Douglas Lively, of Avon, Indiana. They are also survived by six grandchildren, David and wife, Joy Schulz, Erinna Schulz, Ryan Schulz, Suzanne and husband, Shawn Sharpless, Jake Lively, and Alaina Lively. They are also survived by their first great-grandchild.
Elinor was an active member of South Haven Baptist Church and a member of Harmony Sunday Class in Springfield, Missouri. She enjoyed her home, family, gardening, handiwork, reading and playing the piano. As a youngster, Elinor was active in competitive sports.
She will be buried in the Stewart family plot in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, by the side of her husband, Dennis. Elinor is missed by her family and will spend her eternity with God. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
William Jenkins Jr.
Oct. 5, 1967 — May 21, 2018
William “Hossfly” Joseph Jenkins Jr., 50, of Coal Grove, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 5, 1967, to the late William Jenkins Sr. and Sharon (Johnson) Jenkins, who survives.
William graduated from Galion High School and was a maintenance worker for J.C. Penney company, where he worked for 11 years. He attended Pentecostal Church of Christ in Flatwoods, Kentucky. He also enjoyed going to dirt track races and was in his uncle’s pit crew.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Alyssa Lee and Megan Downs, both of Charleston, South Carolina; a sister, Angela (Kenneth) Tanner, of Galion; two brothers, Greg (Ethel McKenzie) Jenkins, of Kitts Hill, and Scott (Glenna) Jenkins, of Ironton; and several nieces, nephews and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Jimmy Morrison and the Rev. Rick Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Haverhill Cemetery. Michael Stapleton Sr.
Aug. 1, 1964 — May 20, 2018
Michael Eugene Stapleton Sr., 53, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018, at home. He was born Aug. 1, 1964, in Ironton, son of the late Paul and Mary Robinson Stapleton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Sue Stapleton; one brother, Roy Dale Stapleton; his grandparents; and several uncles and aunts.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, who he married Dec. 14, 1981, Terri Lynn Miller Stapleton; one daughter, Linda Kay Stapleton, of Ironton; two sons, Michael Eugene (Michelle) Stapleton Jr., of Ironton, and Cody Alan (Jennifer) Stapleton, of Franklin Furnace; two grandchildren, Troy Michael Stapleton and Erin (Josie) Stapleton; and one adopted granddaughter, Salem Dawn Tucker. He was known to all three grandchildren as Little Pap Paw. He is also survived by three brothers, Rick (Lynn) Stapleton, of Ironton, Danny (Lela) Stapleton, of Ironton, and Joe (Kathy) Stapleton, of Ironton.
He was an avid outdoorsman and a self-employed landscaper for 16 years.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ohio Furnace Baptist Church, Ironton. Burial will follow in Stapleton Family Cemetery, Ironton. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the church. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com.
