Redmen topple Pointers

SOUTH POINT — Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral was worried about a letdown.
The Redmen erased any worries as they bounced back from winning the Ohio Valley Conference on Monday with a 7-3 win over the South Point Pointers on Tuesday.
Cody Lewis threw a three-hitter as the Redmen improved to 15-1 and finished 13-1 in the OVC.
“It was a nice win. The kids responded well coming back from a big emotional win last night,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.
“Cody wasn’t as sharp as usual but he still threw a good game. All the kids played well.”
Rock Hill took a 4-0 lead in the third inning.
Landon Smith and Brayden Friend singled, Friend stole second and a balk scored Smith and Jake Blagg hit a sacrifice fly.
Seth Nichols and Lewis then singled and both scored on a hit by Kaleb Kidd.
The lead went to 6-0 in the top of the fourth.
Kaden France reached on an error and Jaret Bacon’s bunt was misplayed for an error. Smith put down a sacrifice bunt and Friend followed with a two-run single.
South Point scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 6-3.
Travis Dillon singled, Ben Walls walked, Drake McClure reached on an error for a run and Walls scored on a ground out. McClure then scored on a throwing error.
The Redmen added an insurance run in the seventh when Nichols singled and Lewis doubled.
Friend and Smith each went 2-3 while Nichols and Lewis were 2-4.
Rock Hill hosts Portsmouth Clay on Friday.
