SOUTH POINT — A new option for pizza is available in South Point, as The Pizza Shoppe had its grand opening on Monday.

“I’ve been in the industry for 15 years. I’m a student of the industry, you can say,” Grover Spears, owner of the business, said. “I moved out to South Dakota with my wife in 2011, and we opened the restaurant out there. I came up with the whole concept out there, and it ranked number two on the ‘Only In Your State’ website South Dakota state dining bucket list.”

Spears added that although he sold the Martin, South Dakota business in 2016, it still remains very successful today.

“I’m originally from Lawrence County, and moved back here in June last year,” he said. “I just wanted to open this business up here to get involved with the community and be able to serve the community quality product.”

The Pizza Shoppe serves pizzas, including numerous specialties, pasta, several appetizers, calzones, salads and sandwiches.

“We have all of our own recipes, and we try to provide the best product in house,” he said. “We also stock daily to keep everything fresh.”

He added that although he has worked in a variety of restaurants over the years, pizza was one of his first jobs.

“Before I started my own restaurant, a lot of places would bring me in to help manage and bring businesses up,” he said. “My brother also owns a pizza place in Barboursville, and we’ve also helped overhaul stores and things like that as well.”

He said that one thing he wants to do is help the community in any way he can, including assisting with fundraisers or making a certain percentage of a day’s sales to go toward a cause.

The Pizza Shoppe is located at 210 Solida Road, and open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Dine in, pick up and delivery options are available.

Currently, the business has around a dozen employees, but Spears said that experienced cooks and delivery drivers would be hired.
