SOUTH WEBSTER — It all worked right for the Green Bobcats and as a result the outcome was just right.
Green got good pitching, hitting and defense as they beat the South Webster Jeeps 12-1 in six innings on Thursday.
Green (2-1) had 14 hits — all singles — led by Bryce Pond who was 2-for-2, Levi Singleton 2-3 with two runs batted in, and both Tanner Kimbler and Tayte Carver were 2-4.
Pond got the pitching win as he went the distance and threw just 72 pitches. He struck out seven and walked two while allowing only three hits.
“We got a really good performance from Bryce Pond and we had 10 players who got hits, so it was a total team effort,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
“It was nice just to get back on the field. After a nine-day layoff, you never know how you’ll perform.”
Green took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Rylee Maynard walked, stole second and Carver had an RBI single. Carver stole second and Pond singled him home. Singleton got a base hit and Hayden Whittis reached on an error as the run scored.
The Jeeps got a run in the bottom of the first when Gabe Ruth doubled, moved up on a sacrifice and scored on a ground out by Jacob Ruth.
But the Bobcats got the run back in the second when Derek Brown walked, stole second and Maynard had an RBI single.
The lead went to 5-1 in the fourth on hits by Kimbler and Carver and then Pond and Whittis walked to force home Kimbler.
Green had a four-run rally in the fifth to lead 9-1.
Eli Webb walked, Maynard was hit by a pitch, Kimbler had an RBI single and Pond followed with an RBI hit.
Pond went to second on the throw home and then Singleton had a two-run single.
The Bobcats put the game away with three runs in the sixth.
Jake McKenzie walked, Ethan Carpenter singled, both moved up on a wild pitch and Joe Webb beat out an infield hit for an RBI.
Garrett Daniels walked to load the bases and Carter McKenzie delivered a two-run single.
Green plays at Portsmouth Notre Dame on Friday.
