PEDRO — It might have been the first game, but you would have thought Tayte Carver was in mid-season form.
Carver pitched one-hit baseball for 6.2 innings as the Green Bobcats opened the season with a 3-0 win over the Fairland Dragons in the Rock Hill Wooden Bat Classic on Monday.
“We got a great effort out of Tayte Carver and we had some timely hits,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
Tucker Adkins had a two-out base hit in the seventh inning for Fairland to break up the no-hit bid.
Carver still finished the impressive game with 12 strikeouts and just two walks. Tanner Kimbler struck out the only batter he faced in the seventh inning for the save.
Green took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with one out.
Tanner Kimbler singled, Carver was safe on an error and Mason Barber reached on an error as Kimbler scored.
Two runs scored in the second.
Derek Brown walked, stole second and second on Levi Singleton’s two-out base hit. Singleton went to second on the throw home and scored on Kimbler’s base hit.
“Carver kept us off-balance tonight. Hats off to him,” Fairland coach Alex Beelen. “Defensively, we weren’t as sharp and that led to their three unearned runs.”
Kimbler was 3-4 and Singleton 2-3 as Green had seven hits.
On Tuesday, Fairland plays Oak Hill at 5 p.m. and Green faces Rock Hill at 7 p.m.
