Eileen Moeller

Jan. 5, 1924 — March 13, 2018

Eileen May Moeller, 94, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at a local health care facility. The Portsmouth native was born Jan. 5, 1924, a daughter of the late Cleenie James and Dorothy E. Goodman Bentley.
Eileen was a graduate of Pedro High School and a former clerk for the J.C. Penney Company in the shoe department. Eileen was the former owner of Swain’s Flower Shop and also worked in Haller’s and Weber’s Florist. She was a member of Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Hecla.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Layne, who passed away Sept. 8, 1954; her second husband, John Moeller, who passed away Aug. 5, 1993; five brothers, Ed Bentley, Paul Bentley, Don Bentley, Glen Bentley and Ray Bentley; and three sisters, Kathleen Goddard, Lillian Rice, and an infant, Helen Bentley.
She is survived by a son, Larry (Alice) Layne, of Kitts Hill; three grandchildren, David Layne, Aaron Scott (Brandie) Layne and Jason ( Melissa) Layne; and eight great-grandchildren, Eric Layne, Aaron Layne, Aadon Layne, Abigal Layne, Sierra Layne, Ethan Layne, Aubree Layne and Chelsea Mahle.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Mike Long officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery and visitation will be noon until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Bernard Hackworth

March 12, 1937 — March 14, 2018

Bernard Joseph Hackworth, 81, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Community Hospice House, Ashland, Kentucky. Mr. Hackworth was born March 12, 1937, in Ironton, a son to the late Jesse and Margaret (Kennan) Hackworth.
Mr. Hackworth was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and was a United States Army veteran. Mr. Hackworth was a retired crane operator for Armco Steele. He was an avid reader and was of the Catholic faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathleen Schiffman, Faye Distockie and Hazel Brammer; and two brothers, Jesse Hackworth Jr. and Jerry Hackworth.
He is survived by two sisters, Alice Schilliger, of Columbus, and Geneva Daniels, of Harvest, Alabama; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ironton, with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, with military honors provided by the Ironton VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m.-12:30 P.M. Donald Murphy

June 22, 1936 — March 15, 2018

Donald Harold Murphy, 81, of Kitts Hill, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at a local health care facility. The Portsmouth native was born June 22, 1936, a son of the late Floyd and Rachael Massie Murphy.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ann Stewart Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was a 1954 graduate of Ironton High School and attended Morehead State University and Ohio University. He was a U. S. Army veteran and a former employee of Dow Chemical, where he worked in the Environmental Safety Department. Donald was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Ironton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Murphy and John “Jack” Murphy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Valerie L. Vaughan, of Shreveport, Louisiana, Leah E. (Rob) Valentine, of Russell, Kentucky, and Colleen E. (John) Griffiths, of Ironton; two sons, James C. (Carol) Vaughan, of Richmond, Kentucky, and Derek S. (Sarah) Vaughan, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; a brother, Robert Murphy; a sister, Janice Nelson; a special grandson, Aaron, and nine additional grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Sallie Schisler officiating. Helen T. Perego, 88, of Chesapeake, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point.

Mary Lou Thomas

July 2, 1929 — Feb. 27, 2018

Mary Lou Thomas, 88, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018. She was born July 2, 1929.
She is preceded in death by husband, William J. Thomas; parents, Lucy and Edgar Zuercher; brother, Jerome Zuercher; and sister, Regina Ohara.
She is survived by three sons, Edgar Thomas “Butch,” of Clearwater, Florida, Kevin Thomas, of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Eric Thomas, of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida; daughter, Lisa Parlier, of Nashville, Tennessee; two grandsons, Evan Parlier and Stuart Parlier; three granddaughters, Danielle, Carrie and Hanna Thomas; and special neighbors, Doug, Tonya and Connor Waller.
Her body was donated to the Marshall University School of Medicine. There are no services.

Marion Adkins

Marion Wesley Adkins, 75, of South Point, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at River’s Bend Health Care Center, South Point.
Funeral service will be 5 p.m. today at Highlawn Full Gospel Assembly, Huntington, West Virginia, with pastor Paul Michael Booth officiating.
