ATHENS — If you need someone to carve your turkey on Thanksgiving, you get a carver.
The Green Bobcats did the same thing on Sunday when they needed to rally in the second half.
Trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half, Green rallied in the second half thanks to Tayte Carver.
Carver scored 22 of his 28 points in the second half as the Green beat the Trimble Tomcats 68-66 in the Division IV district semifinals at the Ohio University Convocation Center.
“He took over. The kid is an athlete. We’ve been waiting for that game from Tayte Carver. He picked the right time. He was feeling it,” said Green coach Dirk Hollar.
Tanner Kimbler scored 19 points for Green (16-7) including 14 in the second half. Gage Sampson and Zach Huffman added nine points each.
Randy Hixson scored 22 points and Brayden Weber 17 for Trimble (17-6).
Hixson came into the game averaging 28 points a game.
The game was tied four times in the first quarter before Trimble turned a 13-12 lead into a 20-12 spread at the end of the quarter.
Hixson hit a 3-pointer and scored nine points and Weber had six points to help give Trimble the lead.
Green cut the deficit to 27-22 at the half and then both teams got their offenses going in the second half.
Carter had a 3-pointer and scored 12 points while Kimbler also had a trey and was 6-of-6 at the foul line as Green cut the deficit to 46-43.
Cameron Kittle, Bryce Richards and Hixson all scored four points for the Falcons in the quarter.
The Bobcats roared from behind to outscore the Tomcats 25-20 in the fourth quarter.
Carver had 10 points, Gage Sampson and Kimbler scored five each and Zach Huffman had four points off the each as Green rallied for the win.
Hixson hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points while Weber had seven points for the Tomcats.
Green will play the Waterford-Peebles winner at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Convocation Center.
