SOUTH POINT — Chance Gunther made not be perfect, but he had virtually a perfect game.
Gunther didn’t miss a shot as he scored a career-high 28 points to lead the South Point Pointers to a 75-41 rout of the Pt. Pleasant Big Blacks on Saturday.
Gunther was 8-of-8 from the field that included three 3-point goals and was 9-of-9 at the foul line.
“Our intensity was better in the first half. We played good team ball. Gunther got really hot. He didn’t miss a shot,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise.
“They responded tonight after not playing very well last night. Once we got the big lead we subbed out.”
Roger Staggs also had a nice offensive game with 14 points for the Pointers while Austin Webb had 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Gunther had three assists and two steals and Dustin McCarty had three assists.
Braxton Yates and Mark Oliver had nine points each for the Big Blacks and Hunter Bush scored eight.
Webb score six points in the first quarter as South Point (4-6) jumped in front 19-6.
Gunther then took over and scored 10 points in the second quarter as the Pointers extended their lead to 39-23 at the half.
Gunther continued with the hot hand as he scored 11 more points in the third quarter and South Point opened up a 58-34 cushion.
The Pointers have a busy week ahead. They visit Chesapeake on Tuesday, Ironton on Wednesday and Portsmouth on Friday before coming home on Saturday to play Huntington St. Joseph.
