Tenure of success

Recently, the State of Ohio bestowed a prestigious honor on Chesapeake Elementary.
The school, which is attended by grades kindergarten through fifth, was named a High Progress School of Honor by the Department of Education, one of only 12 in the state to attain the title.
The Schools of Honor program is aimed at recognizing schools that serve a significant number of economically-disadvantaged students and sustain high achievement and substantial progress.
To qualify, a school must be a Title I recipient or eligible, and have a student body of 40 percent or more economically disadvantaged students.
Chesapeake met these qualifications and qualified for the title, a part of their continuing academic success story.
Last year, during statewide testing, eight students from the school achieved a perfect score in math, a rarity among results.
For the past three consecutive years, Chesapeake has scored the highest of all elementary schools in Lawrence County.
We commend principal Trisha Harris and faculty for the success under their instruction, as well as the students who have met and exceeded expectations in their learning.
