William Schaffer

Sept. 3, 1926  — Dec. 5, 2017

William “Bill” H. Schaffer, 91, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at Heartland of Riverview Nursing Facility, South Point. He was born in Scioto County on Sept. 3, 1926, to the late Floyd and Ethel (McGuillen) Schaffer.
William was a 1944 graduate of Portsmouth High School and a WWII Army veteran, where he served in the European Theater. After his discharge from the Army, Bill was an Office Supervisor at Ohio Power and retired after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ironton, where he held many positions. The last few years of his life was spent at Morning Pointe assisted living facility where he enjoyed making great friends and playing bingo.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ada (Fry) Schaffer; a daughter, Donna Knight; and three sisters, Kathryn Lee, Francis Young and Virginia Schaffer.
Bill is survived by a daughter, Sue (Jeff) Vanderhoof, of Ironton; a sister, Ruth Lodwick, of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Ali Burns, of Columbia, South Carolina, Andrew (Tyler) Fortman, of Chicago, Illinois and Seth (Amy) Knight, of Lexington, Kentucky; and three great-grandchildren, Maddux and Mason Knight of Lexington, Kentucky and Jillian Burns, of Columbia, South Carolina. He also had a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Pleasants of Coal Grove; a step-grandson, Jason Vanderhoof, of Coal Grove, and two step-great grandsons, Austen Pleasants, of Athens and Arik Pleasants, of Coal Grove.
Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m., Monday at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast, 100 Veterans Memorial Drive Greenup County in Kentucky. Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St. in Ironton, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Debra Hieronimus

Debra Kay Cobern Hieronimus, 61, of Ironton, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 6, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. She was born Feb. 4, 1956, a daughter of the late George and Francis Jones Cobern. Debra is also preceded in death by three brothers, Richard Cobern, Johnny Joe Cobern and Jeff Cobern.
She is survived by her daughter Beth (Larry) Taylor, of Ironton; seven sisters, Gail (Hermon) Hamilton, of Flatwoods, Linda (Tim) Wilson, of Ironton, Diane Wilson, of Ironton, Becky (Jerry) Brooks, of Ironton, Brenda Porter, of Portsmouth, Teresa (Eric) Sopp, of Orlando, Florida and Tammy Burke, of Ironton; two brothers, Bob (Karen) Cobern, of Portsmouth and Gary Cobern, of Ironton; one grandson Tyler (Shelby) Taylor, of Georgetown, Kentucky.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Kentucky officiated by Pastor Eric Barnes. Burial will be at the Hanging Rock Cemetery in Lawrence County.
A visitation for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at the funeral home.

Dorothy Riggs

Dorothy Sue Riggs, 72, of South Point, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at River’s Bend Health Care Center. There will be no services. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Robert Ramey

Robert Lee Ramey, 41, of Kitts Hill, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at his residence.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St. in Ironton, with the Rev. Billy Markins officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery.
