Robert Daniels
May 15, 1938 — Nov. 4, 2017
Robert “Bob” Daniels, 79, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, in Columbus after a brief illness. He was born May 15, 1938, in Hanging Rock, to the late Jason and Lucy (Hillman) Daniels. His wife, Carol; and two brothers, Phillip Gail and Charles Daniels, preceded him in death.
Bob is survived by his children, Mary (Bruce Weaver), Brian, Craig, and Julie (Paul Ruiz); beloved granddaughters, Morgan and Cecilia; and sister, Betty Hill. Bob was a generous and loving husband, dad, popaw, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, and will be missed by many. Granddaughters Morgan and Cecilia will especially miss their popaw. They were a joy to him, and he loved them like only popaws can.
Bobby was a 1956 graduate of Rock Hill High School and loved sharing stories about the fun he had with dear friends and cousins down the river.
Our dad was patriotic to the core and loved his country. He proudly served in peacetime and war, and was called to active duty for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Air Force Reserve and the Ohio Air National Guard.
In 1977, after more than 20 years of service, Tsgt. Daniels retired. His military service and the folks with whom he served were truly dear to his heart.
In addition to the military, Bob retired from the State of Ohio as an elevator inspector. He was once a guard at the Ohio Pen, was an award-winning forklift operator, a DIY “expert” and was one of the finest, self-taught swimming pool technicians in the Midwest.
Uncle Bob loved riding his motorcycle. At age 64, he earned his Iron Butt for riding his Kawasaki Drifter 1,014 miles in under 24 hours. Crusty loved hearing a good joke, but loved telling one even more. He generously gave us laughter as a gift. News of Bob’s death has sent shockwaves through Wall Street, as stock prices of Miller Lite, Zesta crackers, Miracle Maize and pinto beans plummeted from a sudden decrease in demand. Make a pot of beans in his honor.
Thank you to the staff at Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber and Ohio Health Hospice for their care, and especially to Onnie for always finding time for us and our dad.
At his request, there will not be a funeral. Plans for a Celebration of Life party are in the works for Nov. 19, 2017. For more details, email goodbyecrusty@yahoo.com.
