For many Americans, being diagnosed with a medical problem or facing a severe illness can be financially devastating.
In addition to the daily health difficulties that come with such a situation, having to worry about making ends meet can be too much to deal with.
Recently, Erma Garland, a Lawrence County woman, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and has to make several visits to the Columbus area in order to get treatments. These repeat visits can add up quickly, financially.
Last weekend, friends and the community came together to organize a breakfast fundraiser at the Proctorville #550 Masonic Lodge to help alleviate these costs.
This event showed community spirit, and it is great to know that when hard times fall upon a person, he or she can count on those around them to step up and provide help.
We salute those who pitched in for this event to help the family and we wish Garland the best in her battle ahead.
