Karen Kurtz

Aug. 15, 1942 — April 3, 2017

Karen L. Kurtz, 74, of Sebastian, Florida, formerly of Ironton, died Monday, April 3, 2017, at Sebastian River Medical Center. She was born Aug. 15, 1942, the daughter of Arthur E. and Rosemary Dietrich Kurtz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, A. Edward Kurtz, Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Linda A. Kurtz Ackison; cousins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be noon Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ironton, with Father David Huffman officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral.

Phillip Kiser

Oct. 10, 1936 — June 7, 2017

Phillip Z. Kiser, 80, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods, Kentucky. The Hopewell, Kentucky native was born Oct. 10, 1936, a son of the late Lewis B. and Erie Everman Kiser. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Edwards Kiser, whom he married July 6, 1963, and who passed away June 22, 2016.
Phillip was a graduate of Oak Hill High School and received his Associate Degree in Business from the Ashland Community College. He was a 48-year member of the Centenary Independent Church in Deering. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a former steel worker for Armco Steel, retiring in 1992, after 30 years of service.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Bradford, Frieda K. Gwinn and an infant sister, Anna Lois; two brothers, Robert Kiser, who died in WWII, and an infant brother, Gene Kiser
He is survived by a son, Phillip Byron (Cary) Kiser, of Deering; four daughters, Crystal Addis (Keith) Kouns and Mary Kiser Leach, both of Ironton, Melissa “Gail” Atkins, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Kimberly (Chuck) Kiser McKnight, of Coal Grove; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Kiser, of Columbus.
Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Kenny Klaiber officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens and visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Robert Poe

Robert Wayne Poe, 53, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. There will be no services. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements.
