Carolyn Miller
Oct. 7, 1946 — June 7, 2017
Carolyn Louise Bailey Miller, 70, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 7, 1946, a daughter of the late Arthur and Goldie May Easterling Bailey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Miller, who passed away Feb. 4, 2006.
Mrs. Miller was a 1964 graduate of Rock Hill High School and a homemaker. She was also a former employee of Alten’s Foundry and Machine Works in the cost and payroll department in Lancaster. She was a former cashier for Bartram’s Grocery, worked at Cabletron and as an activity assistant at Bryant Health Center. She attended South Point United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shelia Kay Holston; two nephews, Victor Bailey and Arthur Bailey III; and sister-in-law, Susie Bailey.
She is survived by three daughters, Lori (Brian) Deer and Tricia (Jackie) Fields, both of Ironton, and Lisa (Ben) Gilliam, of South Vienna; three brothers, Rick Bailey and Arthur Bailey, both of Pedro, and Charles Bailey, of Columbus; grandchildren, Kylie Brooke Deer, Peyton Rae Deer and Jadyn Rai Fields, all of Ironton; step-grandchildren, Ryan Fields, Aaron Fields, Haley Gilliam and Liz Evans; step-great-grandchildren, Riddick Fields, Charlotte Evans, Olivia Evans, Ameilia Gilliam, Kiera Fields and Caleb Fields; a brother-in-law, William “Bill” Holston; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Jamie Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Elwanda Wills
April 2, 1925 — June 6, 2017
Elwanda Ilene Wills, 92, of Ironton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, with her family by her side at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky.
She was born on April 2, 1925, in Ironton, a daughter to the late Geoffrey and Gladys (Mayo) Chaney. She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Bill” Wills, whom she married Aug. 3, 1944.
Mrs. Wills was a 1944 graduate of Ironton High School. She was a homemaker and the oldest member of Woodland Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Elwanda loved her Lord and Savior, her family and her church family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeffrey “June” Chaney and Gary Chaney.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Bill) Cleverley, of Powell, Katrina (Garth) Sturgill, of Galloway, and Gladys (Kenny) Carpenter, of Ironton; brother, George “Cliff” Chaney, of Ironton; sister, Wilma “Billie” Barbour, of Wheelersburg; sister-in-law, Una Faye Chaney, of Ironton; seven grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends who will mourn her passing
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with Brother Dave Schug and Brother Chad Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. James Burns
Jan. 28, 1949 — June 6, 2017
James “Mike” Burns, 68, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Rivers Bend Health Center, South Point. The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 28, 1949, the son of the late Denver James and Juanita Christian Burns.
James attended Rock Hill schools and was a former truck driver and retired in 1990 after 15 years of service. He was a United States Army veteran, who served in the Vietnam War and received a Silver and Bronze Star. He was a former Demolay Mason and attended Plymouth Heights Church of the Nazarene in Franklin Furnace. He loved to hunt and fish.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Christina Rae Burns; and brother, George David Burns.
He is survived by daughter, Amy D. (Dave) Alfrey, of Ironton; grandson, Kristopher W. Cade, of Ironton; sister, Rebecca S. Burns, of Ironton; cousins, John Stevens and Sharon Stevens, both of Ironton, Jimmy Jergler, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, and Connie Ackison, of Circleville; special pets, Rocky and Floosey; and grandpuppy, Benny Merle.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with Brother Chad Pemberton and pastor Andy Ramey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Robert Hardwick
Robert Lee Hardwick, 79, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Hardwick. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

Donald R. Russell, 73, of Coal Grove, died Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Crystal Care.
