Elisabeth Callahan

Dec. 1, 1923 — April 24, 2017

Elisabeth (“Lib”) Callahan, 93, a former resident of Ironton, died peacefully on Monday evening on April 24, 2017.
Lib was born in Windom, West Virginia on Dec. 1, 1923, the daughter of Gretchen and Miletus Shannon. She graduated from Charleston High School and attended Marshall University in Huntington where she met her future husband, Dennis Jay Callahan (deceased). They married on Oct. 30, 1942 in Gallipolis.
She was involved in various community organizations and a member of the Bridges Christian Church. Later in life, when most people retire, Lib decided to become an entrepreneur opening the La Flaire Boutique, a small gift and florist shop in Russell.
Lib enjoyed spending time playing cards with friends at the Russell Seniors Center and watching the Ohio River from her front porch. She loved to travel and resided in West Virginia, Ohio, Florida, Texas and Kentucky.
We will remember Lib as a kind, loving and generous mother. She is survived by three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
