Is it better to start well or to finish strong?
It made no difference to the St. Joseph Female Flyers as they did both in beating the Fairview Lady Eagles 14-7 on Tuesday.
The Female Flyers start with their scoring in the first inning as the first five batters banged out hits including triples by Alex Holtzapfel and Megan Riley and a double by Ashley Bartram.
By the time the inning had ended, St. Joseph had scored six times.
Fairview rallied to get four runs in the second inning but the Female Flyers got going again.
Kelsey Malone slugged her second home run in as many days in the bottom of the inning and the lead was 7-4.
St. Joseph then put together a strong finish with three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to seal the win.
The Female Flyers pounded out a season-high 16 hits with Holtzapfel and Riley getting three knocks apiece.
Malone, Morgan Turner, Karly Young and Natalie Heaberlin had two hits each.
Holtzapfel pitched a complete game for her ninth victory of the season as St. Joseph improved to 12-5.
Fairview fell to 8-10.
