Redwomen turn back Lady Trojans

PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redwomen just keep finding a way to win.
Tied late in the game, the Redwomen scored three times in the fifth inning to beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Tuesday.
Jill Hairston got the win as she went the distance and allowed just five hits. She struck out six and walked two as Rock Hill avoided a letdown after dealing Coal Grove its first league loss on Monday.
Andi Queen pitched well in a losing effort. She struck out three, walked one and gave up seven hits.
Rock Hill took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Rileigh Morris doubled, Hairston reached on an error and Gracie Stevens doubled.
Portsmouth tied the game in the top of the fifth.
Morgan Reedy walked, Eliza Gullett put down a sacrifice that sent Reedy to third base and she scored on a sacrifice fly by Shaby McKinley.
But Rock Hill answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Hairston walked and Stevens reached on an error to start the rally and Anna Darby singled home what proved to be the winning run.
Samantha Stamper followed with a base hit and Baylie Harrah delivered a two-run double.
Seven different batters got hits for the Redwomen including Stevens, Morris and Harrah who each had a double.
Harrah drove in two runs wile Stevens and Darby added an RBI.
Bailey Horsley was 2-3 with a double and Queen 2-3 for Portsmouth. Semajah Parker had a double.
On Wednesday, Rock Hill hosts Chesapeake and Portsmouth visits Coal Grove.
