Lady Tigers’ bats come alive in win

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers did a little CPR on their bats.
Ironton banged out 13 hits en route to a 14-6 Ohio Valley Conference win over the South Point Lady Pointers on Monday.
“Our bats came around a little tonight. I feel that the girls are showing a little more patience at the plate. We still have to tighten up on defense ands top allowing teams to come back on us,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.
Ironton (4-1, 1-1) had 10 different players get hits led by Peighton Rowe who was 2-2, Zjaytia Black-Mize who was 2-3 and Mary Beth Burton who went 2-4 with two runs batted in.
Burton and Aley Carmon combined to limit South Point to just four hits. Abby Hannah was 2-4 with a double and an RBI.
The Lady Pointers got a run in the top of the first when Sophie Morrison and Hannah reached on errors.
Ironton answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Haylee Stevens was hit by a pitch, Rowe singled, Carmon walked and an error scored a run. Ruth Paholsky hit into a force play for a run and Burton had an RBI single.
The Lady Tigers erupted for eight runs in the second.
Black-Mize, Stevens and Rowe all singled. Kenzie Cremeens was safe on an error, Carmon walked and Burton and Rylie Vaughn both reached on errors. Black-Mize and Haleigh Rowe both singled to cap the rally.
The lead went to 14-1 in the third inning when Cremeens, Carmon, Paholsky and Burton all singled and Vaughn grounded out.
South Point got three runs in the fourth.
Keiana Conwell was hit by a pitch, Laken Adkins singled, Leah Lawson reached on a fielder’s choice and Duncan walked.
The Lady Pointers got two more runs in the fifth.
Sara Allen was hit by a pitch, Holly Ramey walked, the runners moved up on a wild pitch and Hannah had a two-run single.
Ironton visits Minford on Tuesday and Rock Hill on Wednesday.
