Lady Panthers hurt by Blue Angels big 1st inning

GALLIPOLIS — A big start was a big reason the Gallipolis Blue Angels won.
Gallipolis scored four runs in the first inning and made it stand up for a 5-2 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers on Monday.
Chesapeake took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Katy Spears walked, Brooke Webb singled and Lyric Bair reached on an error.
Gallipolis came back with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Hunter Copley singled, Paxton Roberts was safe on an error and Jenna Meadows homered.
Alex Barnes singled, Carly Shriver walked and Bailey Meadows singled to the fourth run.
Gallipolis added a run in the second on singles by Copley, Barnes and Kimberly Edelmann.
The Lady Panthers got a run in the fifth on singles by Spears, Jordan Storms and Bair.
Copley got the win as she struck out four and walked two. Webb took the loss as she fanned five and walked one.
Bair was 2-3 with an RBI and Webb 2-4 to lead Chesapeake.
Gallipolis had 10 hits as Barnes went 2-3, Copley 2-4 and Jenna Meadows 2-4 with three RBI.
Chesapeake hosts Fairland on Wednesday.
