GALLIPOLIS — Chesapeake Panthers’ coach Justin Davis just wants some contact.

Davis isn’t looking to make more friends but for his team to put the baseball in play to give his team a better chance.

The Panthers struck out 12 times in a 4-2 Ohio Valley Conference loss to the Gallipolis Blue Devils on Monday.

“The big difference is we struck out 12 times and they struck out three times. If you don’t put the ball in play, it’s easy to lose,” said Davis.

Chesapeake (4-4, 1-3) had just three hits. Gallipolis (3-3, 1-2) had eight hits but made them count.

Gallipolis got a run in the second inning.

Garrett McGuire doubled but was thrown out at home on a hit by Cole Davis who went to second on the play. Dylan Smith had a sacrifice and Quinton Yarger reached on an error as the run scored.

The Blue Devils got a run in the third when John Stout singled, Braden Simms put down a sacrifice and Jeremy Brumfield singled.

Gallipolis got two more in the fourth to lead 4-0.

Smith was hit by a pitch, Tanner Allen singled and a passed balls cored Smith. John Stout then doubled home Allen.

The Panthers got both their runs in the sixth. Casey McComas doubled, Evan Burcham walked, Dalton Nida reached on an error for a run and a wild pitch scored Burcham.

Tyler Eddy worked five innings for the Panthers. He struck out two, did not walk a batter and only two of the four runs were earned.

Josh Faro went the distance to get the win.

Chesapeake visits Fairland on Wednesday.
