Township chooses deco-turf for new pickleball court

WHEELERSBURG — The Porter Township Trustees moved to award a contract to Leslie Coatings for surfacing of their new pickleball courts. Leslie will surface the courts in decoturf, a rubberized material, at a cost of $10,000.

Pickleball is a racquet sport that has been growing in popularity. It’s played with solid wooden paddles that are used to hit a wiffle-style ball over a net.

In new business, the trustees moved to accept a letter from Grace Saturated Church requesting the use of a conference room at the community center, and approving the same. Trustee Jim Gill added that while he was happy to offer the community center to the church, he was curious about their “long-term plans.”

The trustees also approved a purchase order of $2,500, from the road and bridge fund to Allard Excavation, to repair a slip on Giant Oaks Road.

Following legislative action, Chairman Jeff Rase reminded council that the group coming for the caboose would be there the second week of May.

Service and safety director Greg Warner took time to inform the trustees of a reduced weight limit on the Mill Road Bridge. He explained that crews with the Scioto County engineer’s department had reduced the weight limit on the iron structure to 5 tons, and were doing preparation work in the area in hope of securing a grant to replace the bridge.
