James Shope

Sept. 7, 1929 — April 2, 2017

James Edward Shope, 87, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. The Pedro native was born Sept. 7, 1929, the son of the late Nell Delawder Shope and Dewey Shope, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Rosemary Isom Shope, and his second wife, Jean Davis Shope.
James attended Pedro Schools and was a heavy equipment operator for Collins Mining Company, where he worked for 15 years. He is a United States Army veteran and a patriot who loved his country. He enjoyed playing many different musical instruments and grew up playing his music with country music singer, Bobby Bare. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Shope; stepson, Dave Davis; and three brothers, Dewey “June” Shope, Jr., Frank Shope and Charles Shope.
He is survived by two daughters, Olivia Shope, of Panazol, France, and Rose Marie (Dale) Mullins, of Ironton; son, Jim (Karen) Shope, Jr., of Ironton; five stepdaughters, Arvellea (Ray) Heaberlin, of Urbana, and Debbie Heaberlin, Kim (David) Rowe, Dreama Bridges and Alice (Jim) Newcomb, all of Ironton; loyal and faithful friend, Cecil Hall; sister, Sandy Shope, of Deshler; three brothers, George (Brenda) Shope, of Jackson, Thomas Shope, of Pedro, and Frank Shope, of Pedro; stepmother, Louise Stacey, of Pedro; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. George Cade officiating. Burial will follow in Etna Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family has requested that donations be made to American Cancer Society. Condolences may be made online at www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

Joseph Huff

Joseph Kent Huff, 58, of South Point, died Monday, April 3, 2017, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with pastor Mitch Webb officiating. Private burial will follow. J.C. Conley

J.C. Conley, 76, of South Point, died Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with pastor Randy Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Marcella Martin

Marcella “Oudie” Martin, 57, of South Point, died Sunday, April 2, 2017, at her mother’s residence. Viewing begins at 11 a.m. with service to follow at noon Friday at First Baptist Church of Burlington with pastor Robert Young officiating and speaker Virgil Johnson.
