UPPER TOWNSHIP — A woman and her dog were rescued Tuesday evening after driving into unseen floodwater on County Road 181, or Hog Run Road.
Brandy Osborn and her dog were in Osborn’s pickup truck when, by the time she saw the water, she was already in it.
“A woman from out of town was here taking care of some family business. She was driving out County Road 181 and didn’t see high water until she drove right into it,” Upper Township Fire Chief J.D. Pancake said. “She probably went in around 6:15 or 6:20, and we were on scene around 6:30 p.m. last night.”
Assisting the Upper Township Fire Department with the rescue was the Coal Grove Fire Department, who deployed their rescue boat from the Coal Grove side of Hog Run.
“I’d say the water was about two feet deep,” Pancake said. “She seemed to be OK and got checked by Lawrence County EMS, but refused treatment.”
Pancake added that the rescue took about 20 minutes, but the whole incident lasted about an hour and a half until Affordable Towing, of Greenup County, towed the truck out of the water.
“The road is traveled quite a bit, but it also floods frequently too when we get a lot of rain,” Pancake said.
