WHEELERSBURG — The Porter Township Trustees moved on Monday evening to approve a quote from Allard Excavation to address an erosion issue that threatens Grant Oaks Road, off of Mills Road, in the township.
Service and Safety Director Greg Warner explained that he had concerns that the situation wasn’t with something under the road, but rather the creek bed causing the erosion, noting that they had a similar situation ten years ago.
He said that he had Scioto County Engineer Darren LeBrun take a look at the area, and he agreed that shoring the area up with large rocks is the best procedure.
Allard will cover the entire slip area at a cost of $6,680, to be paid from the road and bridge fund. The timing of the work is contingent upon the removal of rock from another Allard worksite in the township.
In other action, the trustees approve the purchase of a new John Deere mower for the parks and pool at a cost of $4,922.99 from Gampp’s, approved the financial statement for Jan., and authorized participation in the OTA group rate program at a cost of $1,988.
In EMS related business, they approved a purchase order and payment for a service plan subscription on heart monitors for the EMS department and approved purchase orders for the annual EMS uniform allowance.
In fire department business the trustees approved, sending a letter to probationary firefighter Michael Holbrook concerning his physical fitness exam, approved $2,196 for additional volunteer firefighter insurance through Ohio Public Risk Insurance, and approve a $1,230 purchase order for radio equipment to be paid equally from fire and EMS funds.
In other new business, they moved to approve Dr. Audio and Ferguson Water Works as new vendors, to approve a letter to IEG Energy related to past charges and contracts, and to send letters to property owners on Clark Street and Green Street concerning the need for property cleanup.
