One bad stretch turned out to be bad for the St. Joseph Female Flyers.
One brief period in the third quarter proved to be the difference as the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers beat the Female Flyers 51-39 on Saturday.
“We had a stretch in the third quarter when we had a bunch of turnovers and went from behind down three to being down 12. We played even with them after that.,” said St. Joseph coach Nick Miller.
Kaitlyn Sheridan and Alyson Johnson scored 10 points each to lead St. Joseph (8-10). Sheridan had three steals and two assists.
Lauren Bush grabbed five rebounds while Morgan Turner, Ashley Bartram and Johnson had four rebounds each. Turner also had four steals and two assists.
Destiny Tabler scored 19 points and Hannah Dunfee 11 for Federal Hocking (8-9).
The Lady Lancers had seven players scored in the first quarter. Megan Riley hit a 3-pointer and Sheridan also had three points in the quarter.
Johnson scored five points as St. Joseph got within 19-18 at the half.
Tabler scored 11 points in the third quarter as the Lady Lancers outscored St. Joseph 23-11 to take a 42-29 lead. Sheridan had four points for the Female Flyers.
Despite the loss, Miller saw some positives in his team.
“We played hard. Our effort has been great the past couple of games,” said Miller. “Our kids didn’t up. They continued to battle the whole game. I was proud of them for that.”
St. Joseph hosts Ohio Valley Christian on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Ironton High School auxiliary gym.
