America’s resolve is strong

Yesterday, residents in Lawrence County and Americans around the country remembered one of the largest, and most tragic events in our nations history on the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

As President Franklin D. Roosevelt said the next day, Dec. 7, 1941, is “a day which will live in infamy”, and no truer words could have been spoken.

In a time when the United States was caught by surprise, it would have been easy for the attack to be remembered only for the damage to the U.S. Naval fleet in the Pacific.

However, while Dec. 7 is a day of remembrance, and rightfully so, we must also view that horrific day as a time when America showed its resolve. Much like in the aftermath of 9/11, America came together and proved why we are the greatest country in the world. Events of both those days were senseless acts of terrorism and tragedy.

In a time when we see so much division in our country, we shouldn’t just come together in times of disaster and anguish, but, each day, we are fortunate enough to wake up in the morning.

We as Americans may get knocked down, but as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, we will always get back up and stand for what is right.
