Kip Barcus
May 20, 1972 — Nov. 8, 2016
Kip Andrew Barcus, 44, of Ironton, passed away peacefully on Nov. 8, 2016, at the James Cancer Center in Columbus after a long battle with cancer. Kip was born on May 20, 1972, the son of Kirstin and Bob Richardson, and Grant Barcus. He has one daughter, Kylie; and one son, Kamden.
Kip is survived by his brothers, Zak Richardson and Brad Barcus; sisters, Kerry Wilson, Melissa Layne and Shasta Barcus; sister-in-law, Bookie Richardson; brother-in-law, Jason Layne; and grandmother, Helen Huddle. He has several nieces and nephews, Josie Keating, Sierra Layne, Austin Barcus, Katie Jefferson, Mackenzie Barcus, Aubree Layne, Ethan Layne and Logan Barcus. He has a great-nephew, Grayson Andrew Easterling; and a special aunt, Kathy Manshine.
Kip is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Mont and Ruby Manshine; paternal grandparents, Grant and Cora Barcus; and uncle, Keith Manshine.
He graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1990, and joined the U.S. Army in 1991, where he served his country in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and South Korea. He received many awards and received an honorable discharge in 1995.
Kip will be missed by family, extended family and friends.
A celebration of his life, hosted by close friends of the family, is scheduled for Saturday at the Knights of Columbus.
Alice Starr
Alice Gilman Starr, 88, formerly of Flatwoods, Kentucky, died Nov. 5, 2016, in Denver, Colorado, from severe complications of dementia. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Starr.
Funeral will be Monday at Carmen’s Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. Service will follow at Carmen’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, 807 Seaton Ave., Greenup, KY.
Susan Freeman
Susan Carol Freeman, 62, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, formerly of Huntington, West Virginia, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia. Chrissie Edward Smith, 83, of Garrison, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, Kentucky, with Roger McGlone officiating. Burial will follow in the Boone-Grassy Cemetery.
