In the movie, “The Hunt for Red October,” Sean Connery plays the Soviet captain who address his crew with these words, “And once more we play our dangerous game of chess against out old adversary. For years your fathers before you and your older brothers played this game and played it well.”
Well, here we are, once again playing our game of chess against our old adversary, alcohol sales.
Alcohol sales in the United States is around $211.5 billion a year, which makes many businesses greedy. But the downside is that alcohol addiction costs more than $223.5 billion per year here in the U.S. More than 100,000 deaths happen each year in the U.S. because of the sale of alcohol.
The cost for alcohol treatment has reached $249 billion each year. Once again we face our old adversary, those businesses who want to change our community to their benefit and not ours.
In years past, they have tried voting all of the Burlington area, then they tried precinct 2 and now they are trying precinct 3. They do no care if you miss a house payment, rent, car payment, or money for food to feed your children.
They won’t care if your children go hungry because you spend your paycheck on alcohol. They don’t care if it destroys your ability to work or function within society. Everyone will be affected by the sale of alcohol in the Burlington area.
Vote no to alcohol sales in Burlington.
