Cleanup brings in large numbers

Organizers say event was largest ever for district

In its largest cleanup event to date, the Lawrence Scioto Solid Waste Management District hazardous household waste event at Dow Chemical this past Saturday saw the most cars and collected the most it ever has.

The number of vehicles to come through the event totaled 285, with 164 coming from Lawrence County and 121 from Scioto County.

The total collections from the event were as follows:

170 pounds of batteries, 520 tires, 1,125 pounds of aerosols/flammables, 24,000 pounds of paint related materials, 3,600 pounds of oil, 9,999 pounds of latex paint, 12 pounds of propane tanks, 10 pounds of fire extinguishers, 2,000 pounds of flammable liquids, 4,000 pounds of toxic solids, 4,000 pounds of toxic liquids, 400 pounds of corrosive acidic liquid, 300 pounds of corrosive basic equipment, 2,000 pounds of non-regulated electronic equipment, 455 pounds of environmentally hazardous substance, 44 pounds of alkaline batteries, 185 fluorescent bulbs, 51 pounds of pills, 31 pounds of liquid medications and 3,000 pounds of documents shredded.
