Thanks given to solid waste director

We all owe Dan Palmer a big vote of thanks for his organization of the dumpster pick-up site on Campbell Avenue during the Ironton citywide cleanup this past week. Dan is the director of the Lawrence –Scioto Solid Waste Management District and he does a great job.
I can remember the old days in Ironton when I had an old hot water heater or other large item for disposal. All that needed to be done then was to call the city and they would come and get it, no problem. Unfortunately, those days are long gone. The only legal option now is to haul it yourself down to Rumpke below Hanging Rock and pay them $48.
That is their minimum price of disposal for any item from 1 pound to 1 ton. Ridiculous.
Dan Palmer has given us a great solution to a disposal problem, at least for now. Let’s hope this can become an annual event.
Importantly, Dan has also organized the household hazardous waste disposal event for Saturday, Sept. 24 at Dow Chemical. This is an equally important activity to dispose of those various medical, chemical and electronic items sitting around that don’t seem to do anywhere else.
Thank you, Dan.
