SOUTH POINT — The 18th annual Willow Creek Sorghum and Bluegrass Festival kicks off this weekend with plenty of live entertainment and all the homemade goodies attendees have come to expect each year.
Apple butter making will commence in the early morning hours on Saturday and festival organizer Ivan Smith said entertainment will begin around noon.
“The Lincoln County Cloggers will start at noon with about a 30-minute clogging show,” Smith said.
Following the cloggers, bluegrass and gospel acts will perform throughout the day, including Five for the Gospel featuring John Thornsberry, Midnight Storm, Bobby Maynard and the Breakdown and others.
“We lean toward the entertainment,” Smith said. “I’ve been in a band for 20-25 years almost and I try to get as good entertainment as we can afford. Most people want to know about the entertainment schedule.”
In addition to a full day of live music, people attending the festival can purchase homemade apple butter made on the festival grounds, Amish sorghum, honey and a helping of pinot beans from Dan Fulks’ kettle, with a side of fresh corn bread.
“All of it is interesting,” Smith said. “It’s just a good community gathering.”
The festival is free and is located on Township Road 161 off Sand Road behind South Point High School. There will be signs posted.
There is a covered shelter but organizers encourage people to bring camp chairs.
