Betty McKnight
Aug. 24, 1935 — Sept. 4, 2016
Betty J. McKnight passed from this life into the arms of her loving Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of South Point. Betty was born Aug. 24, 1935, the daughter of the late Otha and Lucille McGlone Gillenwater.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Paul David Gillenwater; and her special handsome grandson, whom she loved dearly, John R. (Bobby) McKnight.
Betty was a graduate of Rock Hill High School, class of 1953, and also Ohio University where she received a BS in education. She was employed as a teacher with the South Point Schools, from which she retired in 1995. She enjoyed doing word games and loved the Kentucky Wildcats.
She is survived by her one and only love, her husband, Robert E. McKnight, whom she married June 2, 1956; daughter Kathi Bustos, of Ashland, Kentucky; and son, John R. (Bob) McKnight (Joanna), of South Point; two wonderful granddaughters, Christin McKnight Hughes (Terry), of Huntington, West Virginia and Stacey Yeley Lemmon (John), of Louisville, Kentucky; step grandson, Brad Perry; special great-grandchildren, Jacey Marie Fuller and Tyler Hughes, of Huntington, Trinady Crabtree, Brooklynn and Autumn McKnight, of South Point; brothers, John Gillenwater (Nina) and Ray Gillenwater (Lois); sister-in- law Edie Gillenwater, of Washport; several nieces and nephews; and an uncle, William McGlone, of South Point.
Betty leaves this message for all her loved ones; I love you all very much and want to be reunited with you again in Heaven. If you haven’t prepared, “Now is the day of Salvation.”
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Southern Baptist Church with pastor Paul Booth and Brother Tom Ross officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services at the church. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, is assisting the family with arrangements. Tony Albert Cremeans, 48, of Culloden, West Virginia, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Barker Ridge Cemetery, Lesage, West Virginia. Vada Delores Harless, 76, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. Jessica Marie Newcomb Wilson, 26, of Coal Grove, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at her residence. There will be a memorial service at a later date at the convenience of the family. Davey L. Dunfee, 82, of South Point, formerly of Willow Wood, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Ina Lee “Sis” Corn Dunfee.
