McDERMOTT — If the Northwest Mohawks had any thoughts of an upset, the Rock Hill Redmen took Deputy Barney Fife’s advice. They decided to “Knipp it in the bud.”
Brady Knipp ran 16 times for 139 yards and a touchdown and Rock Hill racked up 502 total yards as they cruised past the Mohawks 48-12 on Friday.
Rock Hill (2-0) ran 43 times for 486 yards and added 16 more yards passing as Mason Darby was 1-of-3. Tim Adkins had the reception.
Darby also ran twice for 84 yards including a 49-yard touchdown jaunt. Adkins carried five times for 84 yards and a score while Trystan Matney carried seven times for 39 yards and two touchdowns.
Rock Hill jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead. Each team added a touchdown in the second quarter and it was 20-6 at the half.
But the sluggish Redmen picked up their game in the second half and scored 20 points in the third quarter to break the game wide-open at 40-6 and create a running clock.
The reserves finished the game with Dave Grant adding the final Rock Hill touchdown.
The Redmen make their home debut this season next Friday as they host the Oak Hill Oaks.
