Ironton conducting hydrant flushing

The city of Ironton is conducting hydrant-flushing operations this week until Saturday. The purpose of the flushing is to provide regular maintenance to the water distribution system. As most of the water mains throughout the city are metallic, corrosion occurs over time. This creates a buildup of rust, which in turn, must be flushed regularly to minimize discolored water during high usage events.
Flushing will occur during the late night and early morning hours in an attempt to minimize rusty water inconveniences to citizens. While you may experience discolored water, this will be a temporary issue.
The hydrant-flushing schedule is as follows:
Monday night (Aug. 22): last hydrant on Ora Richey Road, last hydrant on Campbell Drive, 12th St. and Wyanoke Street, last hydrant on McPherson Street, Delaware Street (by the middle school), Second and Howard Streets, Ellison Street (near the trailer park), Rock Avenue, 2900 block of South Sixth St. (near Ironton Tribune), Fifth and Clinton Streets and the Lawrence Street Apartments.
Tuesday night (Aug. 23): First Street (by Mid Valley Supply), Third and Mastin Streets, ODOT garage, last hydrant on South Third Street (near Coal Grove bridge), Cliff and Phillip Streets, Karin Street (near dead end cul-de-sac), Second and Orchard Streets, Third and Elm Streets, Penobscot Trail, Fourth and Sycamore Streets, Third and Washington Streets and the end of Woodlawn Drive.
