Hobert Lake
Oct. 31, 1944 — July 22, 2016
Hobert W. Lake, 71, of Ironton, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016, in Marion. He was born Oct. 31, 1944, in Wheelersburg, a son of Imogene Skaggs Lake, of Ironton and the late Thomas Lake.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death in January, 1984 by his wife, Mary M. Preston Lake, whom he married in 1967. He went on to marry Connie Roseberry and she preceded him in death in 2014. A sister, Doris Cooper also preceded him in death. Hobert retired after 28 years of service with the Whirlpool Corp., Marion.
He was also a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose, the AMVETS and the American Legion.
Survivors include his children, Terri (Dwight) Lohr and Hobert (Emily) Lake, Jr., all of Marion; stepchildren, Kevin Cox, of Marion, Mark Hawk, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Davina (John) Bialecki, of West Mansfield, and James (Lesley) Roseberry, of Ironton; brothers, Thomas (Marjorie) Lake, of Fostoria, and James Lake, of Marion; grandchildren, Paul Michael (Brandie) Smith, of Marion, Leslie Smith, of Marion, Devin (Cheyenne) Lake, serving in the Armed Forces in Dover, Delaware, and Darian Lake, of Marion; 16 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and a special great niece, Jaelyn Unrue.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Friday. Carol Shears
Dec. 31, 1944 — July 22, 2016
Carol L. Jones Shears, 71, of Ironton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 22, 2016, just six short months after the passing of the love of her life, Earl “Butch” Shears. The Grayson, Kentucky native was born Dec. 31, 1944, the daughter of the late James S. and Patty Carroll Jones.
She was also preceded in death by her three brothers whom she adored, Billy, Jimmy and Dicky Jones.
Carol attended Ironton High School, was a cashier for many years at Bartram’s Grocery and Tipton’s II. She loved meeting new people and chatting with her customers. She was known well as “the flower lady.” Carol loved her Lord and Savior and attended for many years, Storms Creek Missionary Baptist Church and later Sharon Baptist Church. Her love for God shines through her family instilling love and a giving heart.
She leaves behind four beautiful daughters, Kim Shears, Cathy (Tommy) Woods, Carla (Ed) Rogers and Kelli Gannon; seven beautiful grandchildren, Natilee (Steven) Adams, Kristopher Hager, Sebestian Woods, Mackenzie (Cody) Massie, Sydney Rogers, Allison Gannon and Andrew Gannon; three great-grandchildren, Isabelle Adams, Isaiah Adams and Caige Massie; her sister, Mary Ann Adkins; two sisters-in-law, Lilly and Bill Dickens and Brenda (Rogers) Adkins; cousin, Jimmy and Kathy Gore; and her favorite cousin, Donna Sue Riffe.
Carol was the heart and glue to her family. Her extended family knew this all too well, Susie Woods, Debbie (Ralph) Fitzgerald, her adopted daughter, Stacie Smith Burton, her best friend, Linda (Ron) Chaffins and her beloved dog, Doc.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Brother Gerald Ruggles officiating. Burial will follow in Mamre Cemetery and visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Tommy Woods, Eddie Rogers, Steve Adams, Cody Massie, Sebestian “Boo” Woods, Kris Hager, Andrew Gannon and J.D. Gore. Maxine Wallace, 74, of Proctorville, died Monday, July 25, 2016, at home. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.
