LUCASVILLE — Those with a case of gold fever will get a chance to do something about it next month.
The Southern Ohio Tri-State Area Prospectors are set to host their 13th annual Gold Prospector Day from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Aug. 6.
The event, which takes place along the Scioto River at the GPAA Lewis Claim, 2 ½ miles north of State Route 348 on State Route 104 near Lucasville, is free and open to the public and will feature gold panning, power sluicing, dredging demonstrations and door prizes.
Raymond Marting, of Ironton, the coordinator of the group, says anyone can get a chance to try their hand at prospecting and that food and refreshments will be available.
Contests will take place to use metal detectors to find buried coins, he said.
To get to the site from U.S. Route 23, turn west on to Route 348. At the first traffic light, turn right onto Route 104. After 2.2 miles, turn right at the Scioto River Trading Post and take the road to the field across the river.
