Cecil Swann

Cecil Bryan Swann, 80, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at a local health care center. The Ona, West Virginia, native was born Dec. 16, 1935, a son of the late Jennings Bryan Swann and Vada Minor Swann. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maryline Murnahan Swann, who passed away Aug. 3, 2011.

Mr. Swann attended Windsor High School and was a former employee for Huntington Sunset Furniture, where he upholstered furniture. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Juanita Mollett and Bonnie Mollett; three sisters, Elsie McComas, Susan Saunders and Judy Swann; three brothers, Basil Swann, Charles Swann and Preston Swann; and a granddaughter, Christina Mollett.

He is survived by two daughters, Lela (Danny) Stapleton and Marcella Noe, all of Ironton; a sister, Demia Jarrel, of Jacksonville, Florida; a brother, Calvin Swann, of Huntington, West Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Sellstine Shepherd, of Lecta, and Genevieve Abrams, of Ironton; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Wilgus Fairview Cemetery and visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. Rachel Vulhop

Rachel Vulhop, 64 of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in West Virginia. The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 21, 1951, the daughter of the late Earl and Savannah (Gullett) Bruce.

Rachel was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and was an employee at Blessed At Home as a home health aide.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Rose Damron Vulhop; and a niece, Nikki Bruce. She also lost her pet dog Max, in the fire. Rachel is survived by sister, Clara Kelley of Wurtland, Kentucky; sister, Betty (Bill) Blankenship of Ironton; brother, Earl Michael (Terri) Bruce of Pedro; and several nieces and nephews.

James McDerment

James “Jamie” Hubert McDerment, 40, of Patriot, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. Memorial service will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the Flagsprings Church, State Route 141, Patriot. Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, is assisting the family with the arrangements. Catherine Nunley

Catherine Ann Nunley, 69, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, wife of Donald Fred Nunley, died Friday, July 8, 2016, at her residence. Funeral services will be 1 p.m.Tuesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

 

 

David Bowen

David Richard Bowen, 63, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, died Saturday, July 9, 2016, at his residence. Arrangements are pending at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home.
