IIB contest to offer prizes at farmers market
Man’s best friend will be front and center for Ironton In Bloom’s Dress Your Dog contest.
Originally IIB had scheduled Saturday, July 9, for the annual corn festival at the Ironton Farmers Market.
But the offbeat spring growing season has taken a bite out of that production.
“We have changed and put everything back,” Carol Allen of IIB said. “Corn isn’t coming in this early. There is really not enough corn to be plentiful.”
Every second Saturday of the month is dedicated to a food fest at the Ironton farmers market. But just because the corn hasn’t come in yet, IIB isn’t going to rough it without a special event that Saturday in July.
This time, those coming to the farmers market are invited to bring their dressed up paw pal starting at 11 a.m. For a $5 donation, each pet will be eligible for a prize — either for most original, best look alike and people’s choice.
“We are tying it in with the fact that it has just been July 4,” Allen said. “We will be giving away hot dogs and relish from the vendors.”
Prizes will be given away along with barking rights.
