WEST PORTSMOUTH — The Chesapeake Panthers did a little of everything that added up to a win.
Kolton Webb pitched a three-hitter and the Panthers banged out 12 hits as they blanked the Portsmouth West Senators 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday.
“We have been hitting it well and we pitched it well. We’ve put four games together in a row that we’ve played well,” said Panthers’ coach Justin Davis.
“Kolton just does the same thing every time out. He has command of his pitches and he threw strikes.”
Webb struck out three and walked one before he left the game after 4.1 innings and 50 pitches in some tune-up work before the tournament. Bretton Martin came in and retired the next two batters to end the game.
“Bretton is another guy who throws strikes. It was a good opportunity to get him some work and he did a nice job,” said Davis.
Dakota Blankenship hit a solo home run in the first inning as Chesapeake (9-9) took a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers scored four runs in the fourth.
Blake Ashworth singled, Dalton Nida put down a sacrifice bunt and Josh Hansen singled home courtesy runner Wes Malavenda.
An out later, Austin Browning had an RBI double. Casey McComas and Webb followed with an RBI singles.
The Panthers got five runs in the fifth to create the mercy rule.
Ashworth walked, Nida singled and Josh Hansen hit into a fielder’s choice. Kelton Jones singled and Browning reached on an error for a run. McComas doubled home two runs and Webb single in the final run.
The defense had just on error led by Hansen who had seven putouts.
