Cleanups good for county

Now that winter seems to be in the rearview mirror, many will use the spring as a time to get their spring-cleaning done, both inside their homes and outside.
On a larger scale, these are the same goals for hundreds of volunteers who donate their time to cleanup at events to help make Lawrence County shine.
Over the next month, several cleanup events will take place that allow residents to make a difference.
This is also a time that many use to fellowship with their neighbors and also make new friends while doing a great service to help their village, city or township.
Those events will see both those young and old along with various civic organizations, school or church groups getting involved and working together toward a common goal of making sure our region looks beautiful for residents and visitors.
We applaud the efforts of all those organizing the events and those who participate in various capacities, but we must also always be vigilant about the littering problem. Whether it is a gum wrapper or a couch, maintaining the focus on littering should be a yearlong focus.
Doing so will make the efforts of these cleanup events not go in vain.
