The Ironton High School parking lot will be filled with all kinds of different cars on Saturday for the inaugural Ironton High School car show, sponsored by the school’s auto tech class.
“We’ve thought about having a car show before, but it’s a lot of work to put on and this class was very enthused about it,” Dave Lawless, auto tech teacher, said. “The kids like old cars and working on cars.”
The car show will have a 50s theme, as Lawless said the boys will wear white shirts and greased hair, while the girls will wear poodle skirts.
“We’re expecting between 100-120 cars,” Lawless said. “And the first 50 cars will get a dash plaque.”
Professional car judges will judge at the show and also teach the students how to judge cars and things to look for.
Prizes for the show include Judge’s Choice, Students’ Choice, Best Chevy, Ford, Mopar, truck, streetpod, unfinished, Camero, Mustang, Vette, all original and paint as well as the top 15 not receiving any of the above awards.
Registration for the show is from 9 a.m.-noon and the show from noon-3 p.m. with the awards ceremony at 2 p.m.
The show will also include games, a DJ playing 50s and 60s music, the auto tech class selling T-shirts and the Ironton High School band boosters preparing and selling concessions.
Lawless thanked Awards Plus for making the trophies and creating the dash plaque and T-shirt design.
