AID — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings have a tune stuck in their head and they don’t mind hearing it over and over.
The Lady Vikings did the same things for the fourth straight game as they blanked the Green Lady Bobcats 13-0 in five innings on Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference opener.
“It was the same old fiddle playing. We had great pitching, great defense and put the ball in play and scored runs,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.
Symmes Valley (4-0, 1-0) had nine hits led by Taylor Webb who went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple. Sierra Ross was 2-2 with a double and Payne was 2-3 with a triple.
Payne faced 17 batters as she pitched a two-hitter. She struck out nine and did not walk a batter.
Ross doubled and scored when Webb singled to start a three-run first inning.
Payne tripled for a run and Sarah Kingery reached on an error to score Payne.
The lead went to 7-0 with a two-out rally in the second.
Hannah Mays and Ross walked and Webb tripled them home.
Payne had a run-scoring hit, moved up on a wild pitch, Hatfield singled her to third and a throwing error scored the final run.
The Lady Vikings scored three more runs in the third to lead 10-0.
With one out, Kara Saunders walked, Hannah Newcomb reached on an error, both moved up on a wild pitch and Ross had an RBI single. A wild pitch scored Newcomb and Webb followed with an RBI double.
The Lady Vikings made it 13-0 in the fourth.
Megan McComas walked, moved up on two wild pitches, Kaitlyn Crabtree walked and a wild pitch scored a run. Ericca Ross walked, a wild pitch moved the runners up and Mays singled in a run. The final run scored on a wild pitch.
